I am so excited to share these photos! I painted this mural for the Wright Brothers oyster bar, to celebrate their residency with Chateau d'Esclans at Battersea Power Station.
The wine and oyster bar is on the historic Coalings Jetty, which sits on the Thames, under the iconic Power Station structure. If you haven’t been down to Battersea recently, it’s well worth a visit to see the new development, including the Jetty. It’s a beautiful destination to meet friends for an afternoon glass of wine, and of course to see my mural.
The design of the mural is inspired by wine label from “The Pale”, which features large pink circles on its label. The bright colours of the mural really popped against the grey of the Thames.

As well as painting the mural, I also organised the building of the wooden canvas. Building, storing and transporting a 2.5 metre water-proof, wooden canvas is a logistical challenge. Before even starting building, the plywood wouldn’t have even fit into my flat. I couldn’t have done it without the help and advice of my friend and wood-expert, Has.
The board is 2.5m wide, built of two sections of high quality marine ply. The ply was sanded, primed and edges sealed before being mounted onto a wooden frame. The two sections were bolted together on-site. The mural was painted with household exterior paint.
