I am proud to be one of a small number of artists invited by Bills restaurants to paint their Christmas windows this year. Bills’ wanted a unique and individually tailored solution for each of their 19 UK flagship stores. Each unique artwork features Rudolph in the artist’s own style, bespoke to the layout and location of the restaurant.
I created artwork for their Birmingham, Chelmsford and Cardiff restaurants, challenging me to design something that would work across the three different sites. The Birmingham and Cardiff stores in particular have HUGE windows, so it was a challenge to create something that could be produced within one day.
For Birmingham and Cardiff, I worked with paint brushes and household paint to create fluid swooshes of painterly, festive florals. Allowing me to work on large scale and fill the huge windows. Birmingham Bullring’s design features a Bull, and Cardiff’s had some Welsh dragons with Santa hats.
For the smaller, paned windows of Chelmsford, I worked with a mixture of Posca pens and tiny paint brushes to create smaller miniature artworks in each of the panes of glass.
I’m really delighted with how the windows turned out. Here are some pictures of the finished windows. And thanks to my friend, Niki for the great photos of me working.
